Description

Beautiful 1880 village cart with excellent running gear, most original fittings. Seat moves back and forth on worm drive to balance cart. Shafts are integral, which combined with leaf springs and big wheels gives this cart a very comfortable ride. Wheels are recently re-rubbered. Cart can move up and down on shafts to change height. The carriage was made by Harrison, Brass & Co., coach works of Inverness, Scotland and Elgin, New Brunswick, in the late 1800s. I'm assuming that this carriage was made in the Elgin location! Ads for a similar vehicle by that company say that it is 'elegant in construction, yet strong and substantial, well balanced and of light draught, while the springs are so constructed as to avoid any jolting, even over rough roads.' I would entirely agree. This is a very comfortable cart! Parade ready. Selling reluctantly as we are moving to mountains and will not be driving. $2500 OBO in Central Mississippi.
